I’d been looking forward to our show in Rochester at the Montage Music Hall for a few months. This was the first show that I’d booked on my own, after a (legitimately) traumatic experience with our now-former booking agent. After months of counting days and playing nice with one of the most vile people I’ve ever met, I was finally free.
Unfortunately, things didn’t work out so well. This was a really rough show attendance-wise and I’m still struggling to find answers why. The online hype was equal to shows that have succeeded in similarly-sized markets. When all was said and done, I played to under 10 people. Really disappointing.
That said, I’m still grateful for the experience. I got to play a show in a new city, a professional and really nice venue, and spend a day exploring. I stopped at Niagara Falls for a few minutes and almost died on the ice a few times. I tried a Rochester garbage plate and got a halfway decent night of sleep in an AirBNB. I nearly died in a snowstorm twice. It was an adventure.
Weak turnouts happen… and thankfully with Metalcore Night, we’ve had far more hits than misses. The people who did come out to the show had a great time. I’d be happy to return to Rochester again once we’ve built up a more solid foundation in the area. I think my playlist was pretty sick and I played pretty well.
Looking forward to our next shows we’ve got two big ones at the beginning of February:
Feb 7th: Mesa, AZ – Nile Underground
Feb 8th: Las Vegas, NV – Sinwave Vegas
This will be my second time at both venues – I was through the Nile Underground back in August as the backing DJ with WhoKilledXIX, Pranav.wav, Oni Inc., Vitamjn, and Neptvne and it was one of the better shows on the Virtual Chaos tour. We had our best show to date at Sinwave in Las Vegas back in October with Melrose Avenue. I expect both of these shows to be absolute bangers.
We’re doing a ton of work on the site, adding new merch, and prepping for tour. Stay tuned.
