Formation and Early Years of Alesana

Alesana was founded in October 2004 by Shawn Milke (vocals, guitar, piano), Dennis Lee (screamed vocals), Patrick Thompson (lead guitar), Steven Tomany (bass), and Daniel Magnuson (drums). The band’s name is derived from Aliceanna Street in Baltimore, Maryland, where Milke and Thompson previously resided. Their early work was characterized by a fusion of post-hardcore, emo, and screamo elements.

Debut EP: “Try This with Your Eyes Closed”

In June 2005, Alesana released their debut EP, “Try This with Your Eyes Closed,” through Tragic Hero Records. This release helped the band gain initial recognition within the underground music scene.

First Studio Album: “On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax”

Alesana’s first full-length album, “On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax,” was released on June 6, 2006. The album showcased the band’s ability to blend melodic hooks with aggressive instrumentation. It was reissued by Fearless Records in 2008, further expanding their audience.

Second Album: “Where Myth Fades to Legend”

On June 3, 2008, Alesana released their second studio album, “Where Myth Fades to Legend,” under Fearless Records. The album continued to build on their signature sound and solidified their presence in the post-hardcore genre.

Third Album: “The Emptiness”

In 2010, Alesana released “The Emptiness,” their third studio album. This concept album was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s works and showcased the band’s growth in storytelling and musical composition.

Fourth Album: “A Place Where the Sun Is Silent”

Released on October 18, 2011, “A Place Where the Sun Is Silent” is a concept album inspired by Dante’s “Inferno.” The album received praise for its ambitious narrative and complex musical arrangements.

Fifth Album: “Confessions”

In 2015, Alesana released “Confessions,” the final installment of their “Annabel Trilogy.” The album concluded the narrative arc that began with “The Emptiness” and continued with “A Place Where the Sun Is Silent.”

Recent Projects and Releases

In early 2018, Alesana released “The Lost Chapters” EP digitally. This EP was part of “Origins,” a visual history of the band’s journey over thirteen years, featuring behind-the-scenes footage and demos. “The Lost Chapters” EP is available on all digital platforms.
