When We Were Young Tour Diary

This year Metalcore Night is producing two side events in Las Vegas during the When We Were Young Festival Weekend. Witches can’t make the trip for this one – so Adam is going to be flying solo – with some help from some emotional support humans from back home in Pittsburgh, and some very close friends who will be making our shows more than just another “Emo Night” event.

Follow along as Adam gives you a look behind the scenes on the road and let’s make this a When We Were Young Weekend to remember. Some of the highlights we’re looking forward to:

  • Spending time with our friends Pulsar, Oni Inc., Neptvne, Paul Burns, and some special surprises in Las Vegas.
  • Producing the Black Parade Rave and Metalcore Night
  • Meeting people from the When We Were Young Facebook group. Seriously such a cool group of people.
  • Getting food. While the plan is to live this week on a budget, I definitely plan on putting together a fancy buffet trip (hit me up if you want to join).
  • Seeing some side shows: Sunami at Area 15, Emo vs. Nu-Metal @ The Griffin, Emo Night Live Band Karaoke at Swan Dive, and more!
  • Seeing the flamingos at the flamingo.

Saturday, October 11 – Pittsburgh, PA

I’m starting this tour blog early. Today’s my birthday, so it seems fitting. Tonight we’re running a special preview edition of The Black Parade Rave at my home venue in Pittsburgh, and then we’re going to transition that into an Emo Night. Our last few events in Pittsburgh have been pretty hype, so I’m hoping that we can continue that trend and celebrate my birthday with friends.

I leave for Las Vegas on Wednesday morning. I’m not sure how I’m getting to the airport just yet. The city busses don’t run that early and I’ve got to be there around 4:00am (giving myself extra time because of the government shutdown).

I’m spending the next few hours preparing for my shows tonight and spending time with my puppy. I’ll post a recap of tonight’s shows late tonight or tomorrow morning. The rest of the week, you’ll see some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into getting to Las Vegas with equipment – while trying to navigate the current economy.

Tuesday, October 14 – Pittsburgh, PA

Sorry I didn’t update this weekend. I’ve been really busy preparing, setting up advertising, and packing to leave for our Las Vegas shows this weekend. I didn’t take too many photos at the Black Parade Rave/Emo Night, but I feel great about the events. They were both hype as fuck and we drew a pretty good crowd. It was a great way to celebrate my birthday.

I’m leaving for the airport at 4:00am tomorrow. It’s about 7:30pm right now. I’m hoping to get a few hours of sleep before I leave.

I was worried about getting to Pittsburgh International Airport that early because our public transportation system in Pittsburgh is garbage… but fortunately, I have a very close friend flying out at the same time as me tomorrow morning. I’m a bit worried about the TSA right now, but I’ll make it work.

I fly out of Pittsburgh at 7:05am and land in Las Vegas around 11:15am local time, with a short layover in Atlanta. It’s always Atlanta.

I feel good about the shows this weekend. I printed 2000 flyers to hand out in Las Vegas that we’re going to pick up when I land. We’re running Facebook ads. I’m helping run a large WWWY Facebook Group.

I’m ready.
